JOB DESCRIPTION:
post-doc – Applied Bioinformatics Lab, the University of Kansas, USA
40%: Conduct novel bioinformatics research in genomics and proteomics
using advanced machine learning and statistical approaches.
Activities include analyzing and mining public and in-house genomics
and proteomics data and discovering patterns relevant to the
biological problems under study.
40%: Develop novel data mining algorithms for large scale data mining
projects. Duties include developing computer programs for biological
and/or chemical data classification, regression and clustering
analysis. Research may focus on next generation sequencing and/or
protein sequence/structure mining.
20%: Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Possible duties may
include supervising graduate and/or undergraduate students, developing
and maintaining databases, and other tasks relevant to research and
education.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, or other closely related
disciplines.
Three years experience in scientific programming using one or more of
the following languages: Java, Perl, C/C++.
Ability to perform bioinformatics or computational biology research,
as shown by as primary author of at least two peer-reviewed
publications in these fields
Three years’ experience in applying statistical and/or data mining
techniques to research problems using R and/or Matlab software
packages.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Evidence of ability to work independently with attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team-based environment
Good communication and writing skills
Experience in next generation sequencing data analysis or protein
structure/sequence mining.
